Trinamics has a long history in involvement in sport facilities. Several sport complexes, grandstands, indoor facilities and school sport grounds were planned in our offices and built under our supervision.
VAAL TECHNICON : GRANDSTAND
The grandstand designed for the Vaal Technicon in Vanderbijlpark won a prize in the SA Institute for Steel Construction Awards competition. It was the runner-up in the Structural/Functional category. The Grand Stand had to be built over the existing clubhouse and other facilities. It seats 2500 spectators and also houses various commentary boxes.
OTHER PROJECTS
- A large sports complex was planned for a large local authority involving:
- A 50 000 seat soccer and synthetic surfaced athletic stadium
- Six practice pitches for soccer, two with spectator seating
- Two practice athletic tracks, one with spectator seating
- Two soft ball pitches, one with spectator seating
- Nine netball pitches, three with spectator seating
- Eight tennis courts
- An Olympic standard swimming pool with spectator seating and diving pool
- Indoor sports hall with seating for 5 000 spectators capable to present indoor tennis and hockey
- Housing for competitors and administrators
- Ample parking facilities for the above
The above project was cancelled after preliminary designs were completed and bills of quantities were compiled.
- A similar investigation was done for the Western Transvaal Soccer Association, which was also terminated before construction.
- The action cricket complex in Vanderbijlpark
- An indoor cricket academy for the Vaal Technicon (VUT) was planned but not constructed.
- Nine indoor sport centers were designed for the Department of Sport and Recreation, one in each of the nine provinces. These comprise a large hall, two smaller halls, a large activity room, offices, stores and related facilities
